BATHINDA: Dera Sacha Sauda follower Veerpal Kaur, who had caused a political furore with her claim that the attire worn by sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on May 13, 2007, had been sent by SAD president Sukhbir Badal, has apologised to him and the Sikh sangat. However, she asserted that her claim was based on a statement by a senior police official of that time.
Veerpal, who belongs to Bathinda, had made the claims in a live TV a few days ago, following which Sukhbir’s lawyers sent her a legal notice on July 21. She said after she heard the officer in a video, she tried checking its authenticity and was satisfied after getting online video clips. She said in the TV debate, she just reiterated what the police official had claimed.
In her written reply (a copy of which is with TOI) sent on Thursday night, she stated, “I have not even tried and dared to defame Sukhbir Badal by any means. For me, Sukhbir is like an elder brother and his father is also a fatherly figure for me. Even then if Sukhbir Badal thinks that I have given any political discomfort to him, I deeply regret the act.”
“I would like to submit my apologies to all true Sikhs. I feel it is our gross failure that how a bunch of people have hatched a conspiracy to create a long-lasting unrest in Punjab and we Sikhs (the symbol of brotherhood and sacrifice) have done nothing to find out the real culprits,” she wrote.
