Stalin to PM Modi: Scrap creamy layer, implement 27% quota for BC people in higher education

CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday alleged that the central government is acting against backward class people. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement 27% reservation for BC people in higher education.
The creamy layer should be scrapped, Stalin said in a statement.
“The NDA government has only increased the income level from Rs 6 lakh per annual to Rs 8 lakh for the creamy layer,’’ accused Stalin.
He added that the Centre promised a 27% reservation in higher education in 2015. However, the Centre was using courts to prevent the backward class people from getting the reservation, he alleged.
The backward class commission had recommended that the creamy layer should be decided based on the individual income of Rs 15 lakh per year and a parliamentary committee had suggested that the layer should be fixed at Rs 20 lakh income per year, said Stalin.
All the backward classes should break their silence and act immediately, he said.
