NEW DELHI: In what seemed a late acknowledgement of the role of P V Narasimha Rao, Congress on Friday kicked off year-long birth centenary celebrations of the late former PM with party chief Sonia Gandhi describing him as a “bold leader” and dedicated Congressman, and former PM Manmohan Singh calling him the ‘father of economic reforms’ in India.

Sonia Gandhi and and her son and former party chief Rahul Gandhi sent congratulatory notes addressed to the Telanaga Congress, while heaping fulsome praise on Rao. Besides Manmohan, the party also fielded veterans like Pranab Mukherjee and P Chidambaram to speak on the late former PM.
Sonia said, “Rao’s tenure was marked by number of political, social and foreign policy achievements that have endured.” She said the party takes pride in Rao’s accomplishments and contributions.
