Four dead, one taken to hospital after Gold Coast crash

Four people are dead and one survivor has been taken to hospital after a crash in the Gold Coast hinterland suburb of Advancetown.

Multiple emergency crews, including critical care paramedics, were called to the scene on now-closed Nerang Murwillumbah Road, near Beechmont Road, just before 1pm on Saturday.

Police believe the driver of one of the vehicles lost control before colliding with an oncoming utility.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two crews were in action to free people from vehicles but she could not comment further.

Firefighters and paramedics left the scene just after 2pm.

Queensland Ambulance Service acting operations supervisor Jay Nevins said paramedics were faced with a tragic scene.

"On our arrival we found four patients in traumatic cardiac arrests and one patient with minor injuries," he said.

"There were resuscitation efforts.

"My condolences go out to the patients and their families."

He said one man in his early 20s with minor musculoskeletal injuries, who was the driver of the ute, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

The forensic crash unit is investigating the crash.
