BOSTON --- The Red Sox still haven’t announced a starting pitcher for either of their upcoming games against the Mets.

BOSTON --- The Red Sox still haven’t announced a starting pitcher for either of their upcoming games against the Mets.

Boston hosts New York in interleague action Monday and Tuesday, completing a five-game home stand. The Red Sox are likely to use an opener in the first game and a traditional starter in the second.

"As you know we’ve picked up a couple pieces in (Zack) Godley and (Dylan) Covey," Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said. "We’ll look at that and see if that fits into the pitcher on the fourth game."

Godley was released by the Tigers during Summer Camp and started Wednesday’s exhibition game against the Blue Jays. He missed the 30-man roster and was sent to the club’s alternate site at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket. Covey was acquired from the Rays last week and spent his last three seasons as a starter with the White Sox.

Godley is one of several pitchers at the alternate site who could give Boston some length. Brian Johnson, Mike Shawaryn and Kyle Hart also profile as possible starters if the Red Sox are in need. Godley and Johnson are both off the 40-man roster.

"I think it’s planning," said Pawtucket Red Sox manager Billy McMillon, who is supervising the alternate site workouts. "We’ve just got to try to space these guys out so every day or every couple days there’s a long guy available to be called up."

Hart threw five innings in a simulated game Friday. Reliever Caleb Simpson was among those who worked on Saturday.
