PATNA:
Residents of Ratwar village in Kaimur district didn’t allow
cremation of the body of a police sub-inspector, Premchandra Ram, who died of
Covid-19 on Friday. Police said villagers feared cremation of the body might lead to spread of
coronavirus in the village.
Senior Kaimur police officers then made arrangements for SI’s family to take the body to electric crematorium in Varanasi in an ambulance for cremation. The dead SI was a resident of Baghni village in Mohania.
Coronavirus has so far claimed lives of three police personnel in the state. Earlier, an assistant sub-inspector of police had died of the virus in Aurangabad police lines and a Bihar Military Police havildar in Patna.
Kaimur SP Dilnawaz Ahmed said Ram had been recently transferred to Kaimur. “He had only one-and-a-half years of service left. He was earlier posted in Bhabhua town police station. The SHO concerned had sent him on leave on July 17 after he fell ill.
The SI was later tested positive for Covid-19,” he said, adding Ram, who was under home quarantine at Mohania, died on Friday.
