Puducherry MLA tests positive for Covid-19; assembly session to be held in open space

PUDUCHERRY: All India NR Congress (AINRC) MLA N S J Jayabal from Kadirgamam constituency in the Union territory of Puducherry tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday. He is first MLA in the Union territory to contract the viral infection.
Jayabal has been admitted to a private medical college hospital.
The MLA from the main opposition party attended the ongoing budget session in the legislative assembly, which began on July 20.
Chief minister V Narayanasamy, all five ministers and MLAs from the ruling and opposition parties participated in the session. All of them and assembly staff members will undergo medical examinations from Monday.
The Congress government decided to continue the assembly session. For the first time in the history of Puducherry, the assembly session will be held in an open space – the gardens on the assembly premises.
Healthcare authorities disinfected the assembly chamber and sealed the chamber.
