Gagangiri complex residents oppose KDMC's permission to private hospital for treating Covid patients

KALYAN: Around 500 residents from posh Gagangiri Enclave housing complex in Kalyan have opposed Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation's decision of giving permission to a private hospital situated on the complex's first floor to run as a Covid-19 one.
The residents said, KDMC by giving permission to the hospital to admit Covid-19 patients that has only 13 beds, has put life of around 500 family members residing 100 flats of Gagangiri Complex under threat.
The residents alleged that hospital has opened lobby for one wing where staff keeps moving out and windows of rooms housing the patients are also open to the building compound, which is congested.
The residents fear that the hospital, which has been given permission for admitting Covid patients once starts its operations from July 27 may create threat of infection to the residents of society.
Shailesh Narkar, residents from building said, "We want the KDMC to cancel its permission of admitting Covid-19 patients as it could be very risky for residents in our building".
Looking at the threat of infection and on residents' demand, Shiv Sena MLA Vishwanath Bhoir from Kalyan (West) and local BJP corporator Arjun Bhoir have also written to KDMC commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi demanding to cancel hospital's permission for treatment of Covid-19 patients.
When asked about issue Dr Vijay Suryawanshi , KDMC commissioner said, "I will look in to the matter weather permission is given as per inspection control policy or not and if we found it is not suitable will cancel its permission for Covid treatment".
In Kalyan-Dombivli as Covid-19 cases are rising, KDMC has given permission to several private hospitals for Covid treatments. Presently, around 24 private hospitals have been converted into Covid ones.
