NEW DELHI: Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday claimed the case against him and his family in an alleged ponzi scam was part of a conspiracy hatched by CM Ashok Gehlot to tarnish his image. Shekhawat said although the matter was sub judice, he had no problem if the case was re-investigated. However, he said the timing of the case being reopened smacked of a conspiracy at the behest of Gehlot.
“I should not speak about the case, which is sub judice. The case was investigated and a chargesheet was filed. Still, if someone wants to re-investigate, they can do it, I find no harm in another exhaustive probe,” he added. A Jaipur court on Thursday directed Rajasthan’s special operations group to investigate the alleged role of Shekhawat and his wife, among others, in a Rs 884 crore ponzi scam. The SOG has been probing the case for the past last year.
The minister said the timing indicated a political conspiracy against him. “Let the time come, I will expose all those who have conspired to frame me,” he added. Referring to the audio tapes against him, Shekhawat said he was not afraid of the “politics of intimidation” unleashed by Gehlot.
