MUMBAI: Many parts of the city woke up to intense rain showers on Friday morning. Areas like Mulund, Goregaon and adjoining parts like Thane were seen reporting heavy rain activity.
Around 9.30am, the India meteorological Department (IMD) issued a now cast warning of intense spells of rains likely to occur at isolated places in parts of Mumbai and Raigad in next three hours.
“Clouds over Mumbai and around observed with vertical development and possibility of intense showers at isolated places, as seen radar latest image,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD.
The rainfall reported in the last 24 hours ending 8.30am on Friday morning by the Colaba observatory was 39.8mm and Santacruz observatory was 17.8mm.
Meanwhile, on Friday, there’s a high tide at 2.45pm of 4.61 metres. Heavy rains coupled with a high tide causes rain water to stay within the city in many low lying areas for a longer period as flood gates are closed by the authorities during this period.
Weathermen have forecasted the possibility of occasional intense rain spells to continue throughout the day.
