As WFH becomes all work, Freshworks asks employees to take a break on 24/7

However, the company claimed that it was a pure coincidence that the Friday they chose turned out to be July 24 (24/7) as a date.

Work from home, for many executives has actually become working 24/7. Considering this, software major Freshworks gave an extended weekend to its employees on July 24. On this day, the entire company was shut. The reason, the management said its employees were working extra hours from home during the pandemic, hence after having a good quarter, the company felt its employees deserved a break.

However, the company claimed that it was a pure coincidence that the Friday they chose turned out to be July 24 (24/7) as a date.

“Given that we talk so much about work-life balance, we thought we should get everyone to take a day off and have the entire company shut down,” said Suman Gopalan, Chief Human Resource Officer, Freshworks, told CNBC-TV18.com.

Freshworks has adopted multiple initiatives to create an employee friendly environment like allowing family members or pets to pop in during video calls since all its employees are working from home. The company tries to recognise the hard work employees are putting in and is also looking to recognise the adjustments from family members accommodating employees working from home.

Gopalan said employees had started with a lot of enthusiasm, but no one had imagined that this 'work from home' will go on for such a long haul. “Recognising the stress, the company gave this day off. Work from home does not mean that since employees were at home, they needed to work whole day,” he added.
