Assam allows inter-district travel for 2 days before Eid

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has allowed inter-district movement of citizens on July 30 and 31 to allow people to visit their homes before Eid-Ul-Azha or Bakri Eid, which will be observed on August 1.
Not more than three persons will be allowed in places of worship to offer namaz and people have been advised to offer prayers at their residence instead of visiting mosques.
Assam State Jamiat Ulama, one of the largest social-religious organizations representing the Muslim community comprising over 10 lakh members, had made a representation to DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, urging the state government to lift the restrictions on inter-district travel for Eid-ul-Azha, a festival of sacrifice (Qurbani).
Kumar Sanjay Krishna said, “Inter-district movement of citizens is allowed on 30th and 31st July, 2020, in the state of Assam subject to the strict compliances of Covid-19 regulations as detailed in the various guidelines of Government of Assam.” He, however, stressed that the above permission was allowed, except in containment zones, after following social distancing protocols.
The state has also urged people to offer namaz (prayer) during Eid-Ul-Adha or Bakri Eid at their residence instead of visiting mosques after a the State Level Empowered Committee meeting on Covid-19 chaired by the chief secretary.
More than three persons won’t be allowed in places of worship
Kumar said, “Deputy commissioners will hold discussions with Idgah committees and community leaders on the eve of the forthcoming Eid and to brief upon avoiding non-mass gathering during Eid. Not more than three persons will be allowed in places of worship, observing all Covid protocols.”
He added that the district administration will issue a speaking order and all religious and political gatherings will continue to remain prohibited until further orders.
