BENGALURU: A 46-year-old techie succumbed to stab wounds sustained in a scuffle with his minor daughter at his flat near Bannerghatta Road, Mico Layout, in the early hours of Thursday.
Police said the techie, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, fought with his 15-year-old daughter as she objected to him playing the electronic keyboard around 1.30am.

She asked him to keep the volume low as she was studying and it disturbed her. The man ignored her request and continued to play at the maximum volume.
“The girl told her father their neighbours would alert cops and he would be taken to the police station if he didn’t reduce the volume. Angered by her comment, the man entered the kitchen, grabbed a knife and attacked her...” cops said.
Dad, girl didn’t notice injury
The girl sustained injuries on her shoulder, back and hand after her father attacked her. She held his arm tightly and pushed him back. In the melee, the knife entered his chest,” an officer said. Sources said neither the father nor the daughter noticed the injury and continued to fight. The girl locked herself in her room. The man returned to the keyboard.
Around 3am, the girl’s brother knocked on her door. “The boy going to the bathroom saw his father lying on the floor and bleeding. She called the security guards,” police said. They woke up other residents, who called Mico Layout police. “By the time we reached, the man had died.
Belonging to Kolkata, he was a senior software engineer with a tech firm until he quit in 2015. His homemaker-wife died of an illness in 2012. After quitting, he became an alcoholic,” a neighbour said. The family never interacted with neighbours. Police booked a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sent the girl to a juvenile home.
