NEW DELHI: After hearing the horrific story of human trafficking and rape survivor, who was tortured by Sonu Punjaban, Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) assisted her in getting Rs 7 lakh compensation. The flesh trade racketeer was given a jail term of 24 years by a court on Wednesday.
The girl was 12-year-old when she was sold off several times and finally pushed into prostitution. Dwarka POCSO court judge Pritam Singh pronounced a strong verdict in the case observing that the survivor’s ordeal was scary and shocking.
A DCW official said the girl was kidnapped by Sandeep, who raped her and then sold her to a human trafficker. She was sold to multiple men and finally to Punjaban, who pushed her into prostitution. After keeping her for 2-3 months, Punjaban sold her to a person in Lucknow.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “The future clearly depends on how we treat our children. The court also stated that there was no question of leniency in the matter considering the extent to which the girl was tortured and traumatised.”
