Kerala: Governor cancels ‘At Home’ on Independence Day

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan won’t be hosting the customary ‘At Home’ reception on the Independence Day owing to worsening Covid-19 situation in the state.
At home is a high tea event hosted by the governor at Raj Bhavan on the Independence Day and the Republic Day. Chief minister, ministers, people’s representatives, bureaucrats and socio-cultural leaders used to get invite to attend the event.
A press release issued by Raj Bhavan on Thursday said, “Considering the Covid-19 situation prevailing in the state, honourable governor Arif Mohammed Khan has decided not to host the ‘at home’ reception in the evening on August 15, 2020 (Independence Day) at Kerala Raj Bhavan.”
In 2018 and 2019, the then governor P Sathasivam had cancelled the ‘at home’ as the state was reeling under flood calamity. On January 26, this year, Arif Mohammed Khan had hosted his first ‘at home’ event at Raj Bhavan.
