The notification issued by the state government has also restricted inter-district travel between municipal corporations within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to that for office purposes and essential activities like medical reasons.
*Maharashtra reported 298 Covid-19 deaths, taking its toll to 12,854. The highest deaths reported for a day until Thursday was 295, on July 4. The state accounts for over 40% of Covid deaths in India and has been struggling to bring down the mortality rate below 3.6% for a while.
*Within MMR, the highest mortalities were seen from Vasai-Virar Corporation (23) followed by Kalyan-Dombivli (18). The total deaths reported in MMR are now 2,719.
*A day after adding a record high of 10,576 cases, Maharashtra on Thursday saw its highest deaths recorded in a day.
*Of the 298 deaths, Mumbai reported 55 or 18%. The total fatalities in the city rose to 5,930, close to the 6,000 mark.
*The Mumbai Metropolitan Region, excluding Mumbai, registered 75 deaths.
*Maharashtra now has 1,40,092 active cases and Mumbai 22,598.
