Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with chief ministers of all the states on July 27 to discuss the coronavirus situation in the country and Unlock 3.0, sources told CNN-News18 on Friday.

Modi is expected to discuss the current situation of the states, their health services and further strategise with the chief ministers.

The development came on a day when India saw a record single-day spike of 49,310 coronavirus cases while the death-toll mounted to 30,601 with 740 new fatalities.

For the third day in a row, the number of recoveries in a 24-hour span saw a record high, with 34,602 patients having recuperated pushing the recovery rate to 63.45 per cent, said the Union Health Ministry on Friday, adding the case fatality rate further declined to 2.38%.

Modi has held several virtual meetings with the chief ministers since April and has reviewed the steps being taken to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in areas with high case load and a roadmap for effective management of the situation.

His meetings with the chief ministers in May focused around a graded plan to exit the lockdown first imposed in March when the coronavirus pandemic spread across the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also spoken with all the chief ministers over telephone in the last week of May, just before Lockdown 4.0 ended.
