PUDUCHERRY: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday appealed to his Puducherry counterpart, V Narayanasamy, to identify the miscreants, who “insulted” late TN chief minister and AIADMK leader M G Ramachandran (MGR) by wrapping a saffron shawl on his statue on Thursday. Palaniswami urged Narayanasamy to take stringent action against the miscreants.
Palaniswami urged Narayanasamy to expose the antisocial elements behind the “barbaric act” of the miscreants and bring them before the court of law in the land of spiritual guru Sri Aurobindo and Tamil poet Pavender Bharathidasan.
In a statement on Friday, Palaniswami said he was deeply distressed and saddened on learning about the barbaric act.
Palaniswami said he was pained by the recent incidents of desecrating the statues of late leaders, who strived hard to serve the society.
The highest virtue was to respect the views and sentiments of different sections of the people, he said.
He said making derogatory remarks against others and hurting the sentiments of people under the disguise of freedom of speech did not augur well for the human civilization.
The CM said the people, who proudly identify themselves as Indians irrespective of their language, race, religion and caste, would never allow any forces to threaten their unity and harmony and to play petty vote bank politics.
