Pernem police arrest 3, recover stolen bikes worth Rs 25.60 lakh

In a major breakthrough, Pernem police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in theft of motorcycles worth Rs 25,60,000.

According to Pernem police, on Thursday night, the patrolling team received information that one person was moving suspiciously at Chopdem. Following which, the person was detained and brought to the police station.

The police said that during the course of interrogation, the detained person identified himself as Gordon Fernandes, 18, a resident of Siolim and further alleged that one Simon D’Souza, a resident of Socorro (23), was involved in committing theft of motorcycles from various parts of North Goa and selling to him and another youth Denzil Carassco (29), who is a resident of Karaswada-Mapusa.  Police informed that all three have admitted to their involvement in theft of motorcycles in the state.

A police team comprising PI Sandesh Chodankar along with PSIs Sanjit Kanolkar, Vivek Kanolkar, Praful Giri, Harish Vaigankar, along with police constables Anant Bhaidkar, Rupesh Korgaonkar, Vijay Gawas, Sabaji Rawool, Mahesh Kerkar and Sandeep Gawade conducted a raid and recovered stolen motorcycles, including two dismantled bikes, worth Rs 25,60,000.

In this connection, a state complaint has been filed by PSI Sanjit Kanolkar and an offence has been registered under sections 379 and 411 read with 34 of IPC against the three persons, who have been arrested. Pernem police are further investigating the case.
