885 new Covid-19 cases reported in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the continuous surge of over thousand cases for the last two days, Kerala had a respite on Friday with more discharge than the positive cases reported. As many as 885 new cases were reported in the day when 968 people got discharged.
Of the new cases 753 are contact cases, 64 people had come from abroad and 68 people had come from other states. Among the contact cases, 24 are health care workers, four fire force personnel from Thrissur and one KSC employee from Kannur.
Four deaths were reported in the day from across the state.
The total number of positive cases reported in the state till date has become 16,995 and among this 9,371 are active cases. The total number of deaths reported are 55.
The state capital recorded the highest number of contact cases with 156 cases, Kollam 123, Kasargod 97, Kozhikode 78, Ernakulam 60, Kottayam 47, Alappuzha 33, Palakkad 35, Malappuram 33, Idukki 24, Thrissur 20, Pathanamthitta 13, Wayanad 4 and Kannur 1.
Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of active cases 2,650 followed by Ernakulam 906, Kollam 826, Alappuzha 757 and Malappuram 707. Among the new cases reported in the day 167 are from Thiruvananthapuram,133 from Kollam, 106 from Kasaragod, 82 from Kozhikode, 69 from Ernakulam, 58 each from Palakkad and Malappuram, 50 from Kottayam, 44 from Alappuzha, 33 from Thrissur, 29 from Idukki, 23 from Pathanamthitta, 18 from Kannur and 15 are from Wayanad.
For the first time above 25,000 samples were tested in the day. In the last 24 hours 25,160 samples were tested. The total samples sent for testing ill date in the state are 635272 of which 338038 are routine samples. 77659 samples were collected from the airport surveillance.
109635 samples were collected as part of sentinel surveillance. For CB NAAT (3336), True Nat (19636), CLIA (1479) and Antigen Assay (87396) samples were taken. Among this, results of 9185 samples are pending.
As many as 156767 persons are placed under surveillance, out of which 147470 are under home/institutional quarantine and 9297 are admitted in designated isolation facilities.
