Three nabbed for lawyer’s murder in Steel City

Jamshedpur: Three persons were arrested on Thursday for allegedly stabbing to death an advocate identified as Prakash Yadav on Tuesday night in Birsanagar area here.
SSP M Tamil Vanan said those arrested, Amulyo Karmakar, Ram Ravidas alias Chotwa and Biswanath Munda alias Jeetu, have confessed to police about the crime and the investigating team has recovered the weapons used in the murder.
Vanan said the murder was the outcome of a personal enmity over a plot of government land in Birsanagar Zone II between the deceased and accused Amulyo, who is a land dealer.
Citing Amulyo's confession, the SSP said the deceased lawyer had prevented the land dealer from selling the plot and created obstacles by filing petitions as a tool to build pressure and exhort money. Amulyo was trying to sell the government plot through illegal means, Vanan added.
The two other accused said they were upset with the deceased as he used to humiliate them because of their caste and disallowed them from entering the local Hari temple.
Taking advantage of their grudge with the lawyer, Amulyo hired Ram and Bishwanath to kill him and settled a deal to commit the crime for Rs 3 lakh. He then paid them Rs 20,000 as advance.
On Tuesday, Ram and Biswanth had called the lawyer over the phone at an isolated place near the local temple in the night and battered him with a heavy iron rod and later stabbed him, after which the lawyer died on the spot.
