PANAJI: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) board met on Thursday and cleared a proposal to give the state legislative assembly complex a Rs 7 crore facelift. The board also asked GSIDC to ensure that the new high court complex at Porvorim is ready by December.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant chaired the 179th Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation board meeting where a decision was also taken to construct hostels at the government colleges at Sanquelim, Quepem and Khandola under the Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan.
“All works related to Goa Dental College and Hospital at Bambolim are approved and the building will be ready within the next six months,” said a GSIDC official after the board meeting. Work on phase II of the building began in March 2018.
During the board meeting Sawant took a review of the ongoing construction of the new building for the high court of Bombay at Goa.
The complex at Porvorim has missed multiple deadlines and is now expected to be ready by December 2020.
Announced in 2012, construction of the high court complex began in October 2014 according to GSIDC and was supposed to be ready by December 2018.
M Venkat Rao (MVR) is the contractor for the project, which was initially estimated at Rs 72 crore but was awarded for Rs 79 crore. Due to the delays, the cost has breached Rs 90 crore.
The high court complex was delayed partly due to the construction of the Atal Setu and due to the delay in finding alternative land to compensate those whose land was acquired for the project.
The board also cleared major facelift works for Goa legislative Assembly complex to be taken up at a cost of Rs 7 crore.
Aside from this, the GSIDC board also gave the approval for construction of a one-stop centre at Bambolim for women in distress and affected by violence. The facility will be constructed using funds from the Centre.
The centre will provide legal, psychological and other support.
