Ken Block Gets His Hands On The Mad 1,400 HP Ford Mustang Mach-E

It was only a matter of time before Ken Block would strap in behind the wheel of the 1,400 HP Ford Mustang Mach-E prototype racer.

Built both as a demonstrator and as a testbed, the prototype Mustang Mach-E ‘1400’ is a joint effort between Ford Performance and RTR Vehicles, which had also helped in the creation of Ken Block’s infamous Mustang Hoonicorn.

The electric racing prototype features no less than seven electric motors, with three of them at the front and the remaining four mounted on the back and a combined power output of 1,400 HP (1,419 PS).

Energy is provided by a special 56.8 kWh battery pack mounted low on the floor, featuring nickel manganese cobalt pouch cells for a high discharge rate. The car tips the scales at just over 5,000 lbs (2,267 kg), with the battery pack alone weighing 1,500 lbs (680 kg).

The powertrain setup of the 1,400 HP Mustang Mach-E is infinitely adjustable as you might have guessed already; The car can switch from all-wheel-drive to rear-wheel-drive or front-wheel-drive, and can even have its half shafts to rotate the opposite direction for that perfect donut.

Vaughn Gittin Junior gives Ken Block the full tour around the Ford Mustang Mach-E ‘1400’ which of course resulted in the usual tire-destroying fashion. While electric, the Mustang Mach-E ‘1400’ is far from silent, emitting a high-pitched whine that certainly takes some time to get used to it. But the most impressive feature is how quickly it can turn its tires into clouds of smoke.

It’s one thing to read that this crazy thing has a combined 1,500 lb-ft of torque at the motors and it’s another seeing it in action basically evaporating its tires from the get-go.
