NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University on Thursday approved a proposal for digital submission of MPhil, MTech dissertations and PhD theses.
According to a statement from professor Chintamani Mahapatra, Rector-I of JNU, the proposal was approved at the 286th Executive Council meeting. “JNU will be taking the lead in India to launch this novel process of dissertation and thesis submission through the digital mode. This will facilitate a timely, hassle-free and very convenient process of submission of MPhil and MTech dissertations and PhD theses for evaluation by the research scholars of the university,” Mahapatra said.
Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Academic Council of the varsity had authorised holding of viva voce examinations for awarding research degrees. More than 150 doctoral degrees have been awarded during the Covid pandemic, Mahapatra claimed.
For the online submission, students would not have to go through the process of “dues clearance” form submission. “Under this new procedure, the school or center offices will process the acquisition of relevant clearances for students online, with students no longer having to move from one place to another. All official requirements, such as plagiarism check of draft dissertations and thesis and payment of relevant fees, will be done digitally,” the professor said
Vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar said JNU has streamlined a number of procedures by adopting digital technologies over the last four years and more such reforms are in the offing.
