Consider passing students on the basis of last semester performance: HC to Panjab University
During the resumed hearing of case, Himmat Singh Sidhu, Advocate, counsel for the petitioner stated that some of the students will have to travel from far off places like Leh and Ladakh to give examination for final semesters which is very difficult in time of corona crisis.

CHANDIGARH: Keeping in view continuous increase in patients of Covid-19, The Punjab and Haryana High Court has also observed that Panjab University can consider and examine the issue of conducting final year examination keeping in view the decision taken by Maharashtra and Central university of Tamil Nadu whereby they have decided to pass the students on the basis of previous semesters' performance. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has extended interim stay on final examinations till August 13 when the matter will come up for hearing.
During the resumed hearing of case, Himmat Singh Sidhu, Advocate, counsel for the petitioner stated that some of the students will have to travel from far off places like Leh and Ladakh to give examination for final semesters which is very difficult in time of corona crisis. After the arguments, Hc observed that in the meanwhile Panjab University can consider and examine the issue of conducting final year examination keeping in view the decision dated 23.06.2020 taken by the Government of Maharashtra and another decision dated 22.06.2020 taken by the Central University of Tamil Nadu, whereby they have decided to pass the students on the basis of previous semesters' performance.
HC has given these directions on petition whereby petitioners were seeking quashing of order whereby direction was given to final year students to appear for their end semester exams.It was submitted that as per the notification dated 19.06.2020 Panjab University will conduct the final semester examinations in July, 2020. Advocate also referred to the judgment passed by Delhi High Court that guidelines issued by University Grants Commission and the Ministries are unanimous that there is no compulsion on Delhi University to conduct examinations for the final year.it was also argued that notification dated 18.03.2020 passed by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) whereby they have taken a decision not to conduct final examinations and students will be given terms and grades on pro-rata basis based on current semester internal continuous assessment.It was stated that the cases of covid 19 are increasing day by day and hence under these circumstances, Panjab University should also be refrained from conducting final examinations.
