4,165 Shramik Specials operated till July 9, all demands met: Railways

The Shramik Special trains were made operational since May 1, 2020, to ferry migrant labourers stuck in different parts of the country due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The Indian Railways on Thursday stated that it has operated over 4,615 Shramik Special trains which have transported more than 63 lakh people till July 9.

"Last Shramik Special train was run by Indian Railway on July 9. After that, we have not received any demands from any state. Therefore, we presume that all demands of state governments have been fully met. But still, Railways is ready to run the trains if we get any demand from any state government. Till today we have run around 4,615 Shramik Special trains and more than 63 lakh passengers have been moved," Vinod Kumar Yadav, the Chairman Railway Board informed.

He informed that more trains will be operational if they receive demands from any state.

The Shramik Special trains were made operational since May 1, 2020, to ferry migrant labourers stuck in different parts of the country due to the coronavirus lockdown. Moreover, special trains started plying across the country from June 1.

More than 1.45 lakh passengers booked tickets to travel on the starting day, June 1.

As per MHA guidelines, all passengers shall be compulsorily screened and only asymptomatic passengers shall be allowed to enter/board the train.
