The Goa Headmasters Association has lauded the decision of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to appoint a son of the soil Santosh Amonkar as the director of education and Dayanand Chavadikar as deputy director (officer on special duty to the Chief Minister and legal officer).

“All the stakeholders in the field of education always desired for the homegrown efficient educationist to be placed at the helm of affairs in the field of education, as the education system in Goa is different from other states of the country,” the GHA ex-president Vithoba Desai stated, pointing out that only a local talent who has come up through grassroots level with an experience of work at different hierarchical positions in the education department could understand the actual ground zero situations.

“In our state, managements of private educational institutions have invested heavily in the educational infrastructure to impart quality education for the Goan students with meagre maintenance grant from the government,” Dessai said, adding that if their yeomen services cannot be acknowledged and compensated, at least they should have been spared from the humiliation served to them via unsolicited circulars by the former director of education.

“The teachers in Goa are highly qualified, dedicated and deserve recognition and humane approach by the competent authorities,” the former GHA chief stated, observing that the humiliations to teachers is unwarranted and is not a good sign in a civilised societies.

“Having said this, the government acknowledged the constant suggestions made by the Secondary and Higher Secondary School Teachers Association, Goa Headmasters Association and Goa Principals forum,” he maintained.

Dessai further requested the government to consider sympathetically the demand of the teachers to allow them working from home.
