The Maharashtra government announced extension of the general lockdown until July 31 with an aim to contain the Covid-19 surge. The notification issued by the state government has also restricted inter-district travel between municipal corporations within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to that for office purposes and essential activities like medical reasons.
*ANI update at 9.45am: Spike of 37,724 cases and 648 deaths reported in India in the last 24 hours. Total Covid-19 positive cases stand at 11,92,915 including 411133 active cases.
*ANI update at 9.40am: Total number of samples tested up to 21st July is 1,47,24, 546 including 3,43,243 samples tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
*A 52-year-old police constable attached to the Tilak Nagar police station in Chembur succumbed to Covid-19 on Tuesday morning. With this, the Mumbai police death toll touched 52 and in Maharashtra, 89.
*Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to lift the lockdown from July 22 instead of July 24 announced earlier by the civic body.
*The daily positivity rate for Covid-19 in Mumbai appears to have seen a decline in the last few days.
*Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) on Tuesday became the fifth civic body in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to breach the 10,000-mark in Covid-19 cases.
*Mumbai had crossed the 10,000-mark in the first week of May, and Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli on July 4 and July 8.
*Navi Mumbai crossed the grim milestone on July 15. Largescale testing has been attributed to the rise in cases.
Between July 1 and July 20, VVMC tested 28,411 swab samples. The total positives have now touched 10,017, including 190 new cases.
