Punjab: Two held for abducting chemist in Moga

BATHINDA: Moga police have arrested two men for allegedly abducting a chemist from Dharamkot town of Moga district on Wednesday. The chemist was also into money exchange business.
Sukhdev Singh, the chemist, was abducting from near his shop in Main Bazar area by the two accused who came on a bike. The accused overpowered him after and abducted him in his own car in the morning.
At the time of the incident, Sukhdev was carrying cash Rs. 4.20 lakh, some foreign currency of various countries and was wearing gold chain, bracelet and rings.
When he parked his Maruti Brezza Car PB 76A 2476, two persons came on a bike and one of them with covered face approached Sukhdev and asked him to park his car at a proper place. Meanwhile, another person with covered face joined the him and overpowered Sukhdev Singh by holding him strongly from behind and pulled out Sukhdev Singh's licensed revolver. The assailant had a country-made pistol of .32 bore. Sukhdev Singh was then pushed into the back seat of his car with his own revolver pointed at him by one of the assailants, said the police.
The assailants fled from the place along with Sukhdev Singh. One of the assailants told him that he had illicit relations with a woman and that they have been promised Rs 20 lakh to kill him and Rs 1 lakh had already been paid to them.
They kept roaming around for nearly two hours within the district and kept on threatening Sukhdev that he will have to face dire consequences if he played any mischief. Sukhdev was asked to call his shop helper from his own cell phone to keep the shop open and that he will get little late.
Moga SSP Harmanbir Singh said that “after the phone call the Police got alerted about the whereabouts of the location of the victim and then caught hold of the accused persons by following them. The arrested have been identified as Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukha of village Dhaula in district Barnala and Bohar Singh of village Lande in district Moga.
Police have recovered Rs. 4.20 lakh, Sukhdev's gold chain, bracelet and rings, foreign currency, including 285 Australian Dollars, USD 173, 470 Dirham and Thailand Baht 1500, a country made pistol 32 bore, licensed revolver of Sukhdev Singh and the motorcycle.”
