Chengalpattu court has granted the district police one-day custody of MLA L Idhayavarman who was arrested in connection with a gun firing incident in Sengadu village near Tiruporur in which a passer-by was injured.
Chennai:
After the MLA’s bail petition was dismissed on Monday, Chengalpattu police submitted a petition seeking him in custody for further interrogation. Idhayavarman was brought to the court premises from the Central Prison in Puzhal on Tuesday for the hearing. The police sought three-day custody of Idhayavarman, but magistrate Gayathri Devi granted them one-day custody to interrogate him. It may be recalled that police seized a third gun from the MLA’s warehouse and pellet-making equipment during a search after he was arrested. Police have so far arrested 22 persons in connection with the clash.
