PALAKKAD: District collector D Balamurali has declared lockdown in Pattambi taluk and Nellaya gama panchayat for two weeks from Monday after 67 people tested positive for Covid-19 and clusters formed in many areas.
All industrial and commercial centres will remain closed. No public transport will be allowed.
Medical shops and milk booths will be opened from 7am to 7pm. Government offices and banks will operate with less than 50% employees. Hospitals, home nursing centres, labs, ambulances, KSEB, water authority, ATMs are exempted from the lockdown, the collector said.
Pattambi on the edge: Min
Minister A K Balan, after a review meeting, told reporters that Pattambi taluk and some adjacent grama panchayats where Covid-19 clusters have formed were on the verge of super spread.
In Pattambi fish market alone 67 people had tested positive for Covid-19. Rapid antigen tests will be conducted in the area, the minister said.
Meanwhile, 49 people contracted the disease in the district on Monday while 93 recovered and left hospital. Of the new cases 29 are contact cases from Pattambi taluk.
