CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported deaths of 75 Covid-19
patients even as 4,965 more people tested positive for the viral infection.
The death toll rose to 2,626 while the total number of active cases reached 51,344. The state’s total tally now is at 1,80,643.
As many as 4,894 patients were discharged on Tuesday. It takes the total number of discharged patients to 1,26,670.
Chennai’ daily cases continue to stay stable as the city accounted for 1,130 of the fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 88,377 which includes 14,952 people still under treatment.
Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 884 cases. They include 256 cases in Chengalpet, 262 in Kancheepuram and 366 in Tiruvallur.
While Chennai continued to be the hotspot, the rest of the districts accounted for nearly 77% of the cases on Tuesday. It includes Virudhunagar at 360, Tuticorin at 269, Coimbatore at 177, Ranipet at 173, Thiruvannamalai at 163, Vellore at 160, Kanya Kumari at 159, Theni at 131 and Trichy at 127.
Among those who tested positive, 22 were passengers who returned from abroad in flights. Five passengers returned from other states in domestic flights while 51 passengers returned from other states by road.
