While Dominic Thiem isn't "100% sure" it's going to happen, he has confirmed he will compete in the 2020 US Open if it does get the green light.

The hard-court Grand Slam was given the green light by authorities to take place from 31 August-13 September at Flushing Meadows in New York with strict health and safety protocols in place.

However, there has been a huge surge in positive coronavirus cases in the United States in recent weeks and travel restrictions from certain countries remain in place.

While 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams has committed to playing at the US Open the likes of world No 1s Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty as well as Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova are uncertain.

World No 3 Thiem plans to play, but says there are still question marks over whether or not the tournament will actually go ahead.

"I hope that my next tournament will be the US Open, I'm still not 100% sure if it's going to happen," he said after winning Bett1 Aces exhibition tournament in Berlin.

"But the plan is to go there middle or end of August then if this is happening then the normal tour is coming back which is what we're all hoping for."
