MUMBAI: With Maharashtra government announcing to recruit 10,000 constables to strengthen law and order situation in the state, many NGOs and community leaders are gearing up to get minority candidates join the pre-recruitment training camps across the state.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar recently said that as many as 10,000 police constables will be recruited to strengthen the force. According to a scheme, the minority development department sees that minority candidates are given free training, both physical and in, written papers, for two months at different district camps across the state.
"We are telling minority youths, especially Muslims, through NGOs to participate in the training camps which will prepare them to participate in the recruitment which will be held after a notification is issued," said MA Khalid of All India Milli Council.
Activist Salim Alware said that at least 100 candidates from each district will be taken for two-month rigorous training at camps and Muslim youths should join these camps enthusiastically.
The government runs this scheme to encourage minority candidates to join the constabulary. "This is an existing scheme and district collectors choose NGOs which fulfill the criteria to hold training camps," said Jayshree Mukherjee, principal secretary, Minority Development Department.
Former minister Arif Naseem Khan called upon minority NGOs and youths to take benefit from these camps which will help them in the exams and physical fitness test for the recruitment. "Many Muslim boys don't appear fearing they will fail the Marathi paper test. The paper is not very difficult and a little hard work can give them confidence to sit for the exam," said Khan.
Minority development department minister Nawab Malik said the government would give whatever help is required to ensure that minority candidates are given proper pre-recruitment training. This training is only to guide the candidates, not a guarantee of jobs in the police force.
