China on Tuesday urged Britain to immediately correct its mistakes after Britain announced it would suspend its extradition treaty for Chinese-ruled Hong Kong.

Foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin made the remark during a daily media briefing, adding that Britain's moves violated international law and norms and China firmly opposes and reserves the right to react.

Hong Kong returned to China in 1997.
