Coronavirus Pune: Death toll tops 1,000 mark in city

Corona's first death in Pune was reported on March 30 at a private hospital in Erandwane. Since then the death toll is on the rise. Initially, the death toll in March and April was lower as compared to June-July.

Pune: The death toll amid the novel coronavirus in Pune city has crossed one thousand mark in span of 110 days. A total of 29 people died in the city on Monday due to COVID-19. A total 1,005 lost their lives between March 30 and July 20. Meanwhile, the mortality rate, which was 10 per cent initially, has now gone down to 2.6 per cent in the city. Currently, on an average 20 to 30 patients fall prey to the infection daily.

Most of the deaths took place in Pune based government run Sassoon General Hospital. The number of patients was increasing in April, but the death toll was declining. The death rate on May 3 was 5.7 percent. It was 5.5 per cent on May 15. Further, on June 2, it was 4.9 percent. Since then, the number of patients has been increasing day by day. The death toll has now risen to 1,000 and the death toll has risen to nearly 2.5 per cent, according to a Smart City report. The death toll is highest between the age group between 60-70. It is followed by patients in the age group between 70 to 80 and third are in the age group between 50 to 60. Meanwhile, the death toll in the 40's is low.

A total of 2,497 new patients has been found in Pune on Monday. Of these, 1,817 are from Pune city and 680 from Pimpri-Chinchwad. A total of 41 deaths, including 29 from Pune and 12 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, were reported on Monday.

In Pune, 6,918 suspects were sampled for RTPCR and antigen testing on Monday. Of the samples taken earlier, 1,817 samples have been found positive. On the positive front, 830 patients were discharged on Monday. As many as 14,757 active patients are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the city. Of these, 591 patients are in critical condition and 96 patients are in critical condition and are on ventilator.
