Writer Chetan Bhagat has said that producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra "bullied" and "drove him to suicide" in a tweet that was directed towards film critic Anupama Chopra who is also Vidhu's wife. Anupama responded to a tweet by Chetan today. He had tweeted, "Write sensibly. Don't act overs mart. Don't write rubbish. Be fair and sensible. Don't try your dirty tricks. You have ruined enough lives. Now stop. We'll be watching."
To this, Anupama replied saying, "Each time you think the discourse can’t get lower, it does!"
Chetan also did not take her response lightly and wrote, "Ma'am, when your husband publicly bullied me, shamelessly collected best story awards, tried denying me credit for my story and drove me close to suicide, and you just watched, where was your discourse?"
In response to some tweets telling him Anupama cannot be held responsible for her husband's activities, Chetan wrote, "One tweet and the entire eco-system gets rattled." He also dismissed those supporting Anupama as among the "elitist snobs".
For the uninformed, Chetan was referring to 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots, starring actors Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. The film was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. At the time, Chetan had claimed that the producer had been unfair to him over writing credits for the film.
In a blog post in January 2010, Chetan had said he was moving on from the matter. He wrote, "While we maintain our stance on the issue, me and my fans want to move on, and we have."
