MYSURU: Even as the tragic incident of a pregnant elephant in Kerala died after eating a pineapple filled with firecrackers by miscreants is still fresh in the minds of the people which also promoted nationwide outrage, similar incident where a cow has been badly injured and died after eating explosives has happened in Mysuru.
The incident happened in Bettadabeedu village in HD Kote taluk on Monday afternoon where a six-year-old cow was badly injured after eating explosives kept by the villagers to kill wild boars which destroy their crops. The cow unknowingly while eating the grass has bitten the explosive laden bait meant for killing wild boars.
Animal rights activist Bhagyalakshmi said that the cow suffered injuries caused due to the explosives and accidentally eaten by the cow.
“The damage caused was so extensive that the whole tongue along with the jaw were blown off into pieces along with that the whole of the larynx was also severely damaged,” she said.
The activists who rushed to the spot informed the authorities of the NGO People for Animals (PFA) and shifted the badly injured cow to their rescue and rehabilitation center in Mysuru city outskirts. The cow was treated by the veterinarians, but it succumbed to injuries in the evening.
Farmer B K Narashime Gowda, whom the cow belongs, told TOI that their relative has taken the cattle for grazing near the forest area close to Chikkanahalli Reserve Forest on Monday.
“This cow went near the bush and bite the explosive. There was a blast and the mouth of the cow was shattered into pieces. My relative immediately informed me. I rushed to the spot and called the PFA activists who came and treated the cow for its injuries. But it did not survive,” he said.
Narashime Gowda and his family buried the dead cow and performed all the rites for the animal on Tuesday morning at their farm land.
