The complete lockdown in Bengaluru imposed on July 14 will not be extended further as people need to get back to work, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Tuesday.
The chief minister said lockdown is not the solution as the economy is also very important.
The complete lockdown to control the spike in COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru urban and rural areas came into effect at 8 pm on July 14 and will be in effect till 5 am on July 22.
In an address to the people of the state through YouTube and Facebook live, Yediyurappa said we have to fight COVID-19 while maintaining a stable economy.
"There'll be no lockdown from tomorrow, people need to get back to work, the economy is also very important. We have to fight COVID19 while maintaining a stable economy. Lockdown is not the solution, now restrictions will be placed only in containment zones," the chief minister said.
Karnataka has reported 67,420 COVID-19 positive cases, which includes 1,403 deaths and 23,795 discharges. Bengaluru Urban district tops the list of positive cases, with a total of 33,229 infections.
