Assam Covid toll rises to 58, 1072 discharged

GUWAHATI: A 45-year-old man succumbed to Covid-19 at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Together with the four other deaths confirmed by the death audit board as Covid-19 deaths on Sunday, the death toll has now mounted to 58.
On the other hand 1072 patients have been released from various Covid Care centres and Covid hospitals after their recovery on Monday. Altogether, 17095 of the 23,999 cumulative total positive patients have recovered so far. This leaves 6843 patients as active cases and under treatment.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "With sincere efforts of doctors & teams, our recovery rate has bounced back from a low of about 20% to 71%+ today."
The four patients who died on Sunday are a 78-year-old woman and 62-year-old man from Kamrup (Metro), a 46-year-old man from Cachar and a 74 year-old man from Tinsukia district.
On the other hand, Assam minister of state for health and family welfare Pijush Hazarika on Monday directed the authorities to construct a makeshift 1,000-bed Covid Care centre in Silchar town.
