Delhi: 22-year-old youth kills mother to ‘free her’

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her son in south Delhi’s Madangir area on Monday morning. The 22-year-old accused, Sagar, told police that he killed her to give her “freedom from life.”
The deceased has been identified as Anjali Francis who lived with her son in G-block, which is close to the Madangir central market.
A call was made to police around 11.30am after neighbours heard the woman screaming. When a police team reached the location, Sagar was found next to his mother’s body. The woman had five stab wounds on her body, which led to excessive bleeding and eventually her death.
Investigating officials said that Sagar was constantly chanting ‘Aaj maine apni ma ko mukti de di hai’ (Today, I gave freedom to my mother from this life).
“Even during questioning, he has been talking about life after death and philosophy and has given vague answers. Sagar revealed that he was addicted to drugs and alcohol and consumed them on a daily basis. The same was also confirmed by the neighbours. He used to work earlier as a disc jockey with a café in Hauz Khas. We suspect he has hallucination issues as he has not been consistent in his replies,” said an officer.
“We are consulting a psychologist and also probing if the accused was following any godman or was speaking to any of them,” the officer added.
“A case of murder has been registered and the accused has been arrested. The murder weapon—a kitchen knife — was also seized from the house. Further investigations are under way,” said Atul Kumar Thakur, DCP, South.
