Europe’s Toyota Corolla Sedan GR Sport Is All Show, No Extra Go

Toyota continues the rollout of GR Sport models with the new Corolla Sedan GR Sport for Europe.

Joining similar sporty versions of the Corolla Hatchback and Corolla Touring Sports, the Corolla Sedan GR Sport adds new dynamic design elements inside and out. On the outside, the Corolla Sedan GR Sport replaces the regular model’s chrome trim with piano black trim on the front grille, mirror caps, center pillars and side sills.

There is also a black garnish that forms a distinctive C-shaped frame on the corners of the front bumper for a more aggressive appearance.

Other unique exterior elements include a subtle body color boot lid spoiler, black rear garnish above the license plate and GR Sport badging on the rear. The Corolla Sedan GR Sport rides on black 17-inch alloys with a contrasting bright machined finish to the ends of each spoke and the GR trademark red ring around the center cap. Customers can also have larger 18-inch wheels as an option.

Toyota offers Dynamic Grey as the new signature color for the Corolla GR Sport lineup, though customers can also choose from seven other paints. Seven of the eight available colors can be combined with a black roof in the first bi-tone paint option for the Corolla Sedan. Speaking of optional extras, customers can specify LED exterior lights as well.

Inside, the sporty-flavored compact sedan gets a black headliner, perforated leather steering wheel and brushed aluminum front scuff plates featuring the GR logo. The package also includes sports front seats upholstered in a combination of black cloth and high-quality synthetic leather, with a contrasting vertical stitch pattern in white and red. The same color theme can be found on the rear bench seat. An interior ambient lighting system is available as an option.

Unfortunately, the GR Sport treatment doesn’t back the styling tweaks with performance upgrades. This means the powertrains are the same 1.8-liter hybrid and 1.6-liter petrol units offered on the standard Corolla Sedan.

Production will start in November 2020, with sales starting from January 2021. The Corolla Sedan will be the first GR Sport model to be offered in Toyota’s Eastern European markets.
