Bengaluru: Man cheats women after promising to marry them

BENGALURU: A 34-year-old man was arrested on charges of cheating women by befriending them on matrimonial sites and extorting money after promising to marry them. Jagannath S Sajjan alias Ramesh S alias Ram, a resident of Hassan and native of Vijayapura, was caught after a 30-year-old accountant complained against him.
The woman, a divorcee, had uploaded her profile on a matrimonial site. Ramesh, who claimed he was a private firm employee in Bengaluru, got in touch with her and they met several times. Ramesh then sought her help to buy a residential site. When she paid him Rs 7 lakh, he went missing, the woman told police.“We registered a cheating case and found he was living in Hassan,” a police officer said.
Ramesh confessed he had cheated five women of Rs 25 lakh. Cops seized Rs 6.8 lakh, a car, two mobiles, 25 sim cards, 22 ATM cards, three PAN cards, three voter IDs and five bank passbooks from him.
An arts graduate, Ramesh had come to Bengaluru for work nine years ago.
