Daily Covid-19 cases just 2 shy of 1,000 in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: The state’s daily Covid-19 tally nearly touched 1,000-mark with an all-time high of 998 cases in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Monday. The state now has 49,439 total cases, just 561 shy of the 50,000 cases mark.
It was the 18th daily highest tally for Gujarat in 20 days of July and the eighth consecutive day of 900-plus daily cases. In July, the state added 16,796 cases – the highest in four months – at an average of 840 daily cases.
Gujarat has reached seventh spot in overall cases among Indian states. However, in terms of active cases, the state is in the ninth position.
The state also recorded deaths of 20 Covid-19 patients, taking the toll to 2,167. With 777 discharges in 24 hours, a total of 35,659 patients are now out of hospital in the state. Those discharged include 266 from Surat, 200 from Ahmedabad and 84 from Vadodara.
With the update, Gujarat has 23.5% active cases (11,613) whereas the share of discharged and deceased patients is 72.1% and 4.4% respectively.
The cases included 284 from Surat, 193 from Ahmedabad, 78 from Vadodara and 56 from Rajkot. The deaths included 11 from Surat, four from Ahmedabad, two each from Navsari and Vadodara and one from Gir Somnath.
