Ranchi: Notorious criminal Aman Sahu, who is wanted in at least 49 cases registered across the state, was arrested with one of his accomplices from the city, police said on Monday.
Sahu and accomplice Jai Shankar Dubey were arrested from Sakhuna Bagan under Dhurwa police station area on Sunday. Police said Sahu worked with several criminal and terrorist outfits. Three mobile phones, three SIM cards, two internet dongles, a portable hotspot device, fake identity cards, a boom mike of a TV news channel, fake Aadhaar cards and a driving licence were seized from their possession, police said, adding that the duo was nabbed based on intelligence inputs.
Speaking to media persons, SSP (Ranchi) Surindra Kumar Jha said, “A special investigation team formed to nab Sahu was carrying out raids at different places in the recent days. Some members of his gang were apprehended with arms a few days ago.”
Earlier on September 24, 2019, Hazaribag police arrested Sahu from the Ramgarh jail gate soon after he got out on bail. He, however, managed to escape from Barkagaon police station where he was being questioned for four days. Sahu then released a video clip on Facebook, levelling serious charges against the police, including forcing him to accept his involvement in a murder case and association with Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), an outfit which extorts money from traders in the coal belt.
According to the SSP, Sahu was synonymous with terror in several districts, including Ranchi, Chatra, Latehar, Ramgarh, Hazaribag and Dhanabd. He is an accused in several cases related to murder, extortion and extremist-related incidents. Sahu also extorted money from contractors, traders and transporters through mobile phones, WhatsApp and Telegram. Jha said Sahu threatened to kill his victims if they refused to pay. Recently, he tried to extort money from several traders of Ranchi and issued life threats to them.
Jha refused to divulge details about the exact time of his arrest but said Sahu was running a criminal gang along with one Sujit Sinha and their main intention was to establish influence over coal and land businesses. Police, however, said Sahu has admitted to his involvement in several of the charges.
