BJP leader to TNCC chief: Are you ready to buy our party headquarters in Chennai for Rs 30 crore?

L Murugan
CHENNAI: President of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit L Murugan on Tuesday offered party’s state headquarters -- Kamalamayam -- in Chennai for Rs 30 crore. He asked Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri if he was interested in buying the property.
In a quick response, Alagiri tweeted sarcastically, “Do we have PM CARE with us!”. Congress leaders have demanded an inquiry into the PM CARE (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency situation Fund) to know if the fund has been misused.
The war of words over Kamalayalam escalated after Murugan’s statement on Saturday demanding the income tax department’s investigation into the irregularities in the TN Congress Committee Trust.
In response, Alagiri tweeted stating that the trust is run by trustees who are veteran nationalists, and the party leadership has no role in it. The TNCC president accused that BJP had bought the Rs 30 crore property for Rs 3 crore after threatening Mukta Srinivasan, the previous owner of the property. He also sought an explanation of that incident, after Murugan hinted at the irregularities in the trust created by former chief minister K Kamaraj for the welfare of the poor.
In a statement provided on Tuesday, Murugan said, “I don't know how he (Alagiri) arrived at the estimate. But we are ready to give the property for Rs 30 crore. Will he be ready to buy it?”
