'Let them quarantine there': Three Melburnians bizarrely found smoking a shisha in a dirty public toilet are all fined for breaking coronavirus laws

  • Trio were fined after caught smoking a shisha in public bathroom in Melbourne
  • Police spotted the friends in the Point Cook toilets early Monday morning
  • People can only leave home for work/study, food, exercise and medical care

A group of friends have all been fined after they were caught smoking a shisha in a dirty public bathroom in Melbourne.

The trio were caught huddled together in a toilet block in Point Cook in the city's south-west early Monday morning.

The shisha party was eventually broken up by police who were tipped off from another resident.

Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire are currently in the midst of a second lockdown, meaning residents can only leave their homes for food, exercise, work/study or medical care.

Police issued the infringements for breaching coronavirus restrictions.

A photo of the shisha was shared to the Wyndham Police Facebook page with many pointing out the trio's lack of 'class'.

'High class people socialising in a toilet. I’m sure there’s no COVID in there. It wouldn’t survive the germs,' said one.

'Just lock them up for 14 days in the toilet and let them quarantine there,' wrote another.

'Sorry you have to waste your time on oxygen thieves,' one commented.

'You don’t even want to walk in to a public toilet to pee let alone smoke a shisha!'

Several fines have been handed out to rule breakers during the six week lockdown.

One man was hit with a $1,652 fine after driving 32kms just to get his favourite butter chicken.

Others have been found attending illegal gatherings and parties.

On Tuesday Victoria recorded 374 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths.

Tuesday's spike in cases was announced just a day before masks become compulsory in Victoria, with $200 fines in place for failing to wear them from 11.59pm on Wednesday night.
