Hyderabad: Woman hangs self after dowry harassment

HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old housewife from Khairtabad in the Hyderabad district of Telangana hanged herself allegedly after facing dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws on Sunday. A dowry death case was registered.
The victim, Shazia Tarranum, from MS Maqta, Khairtabad married Mohammed Omer (30) in 2017. Soon after their marriage, her husband Omer, mother-in-law Asia Begum, brothers-in-law Ghouse and Siddiq and sister-in-law Saira Begum would often quarrel with her over petty issues and dowry. They allegedly would not give her proper food.
According to cops, she used to inform these issues to her parents over phone calls and visit her parent's house whenever she could not bear the harassment.
Four months ago, Shazia again went to her parent’s house after facing harassment. Her parents discussed the issue with elders and sent her back. However, the harassment continued for additional dowry.
On Sunday evening, at around 8.30pm, the victim hanged herself in her husband's house. After the victim's father approached the cops, Shazia's in-laws and husband were booked for dowry death.
