Several parts of Chennai received light to moderate rains on Sunday. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, these showers will continue for the week in the same intensity in the city.

“The rains are a result of the interactions between the easterly trough and westerly trough over the State. All areas of the State can expect moderate rainfall as the week goes on,” said S Balachandran, Director, Regional Metrological Department, Chennai.
The State is expected to witness light to moderate rainfalls, with the Nilgiris and surrounding areas receiving isolated cases of heavy rainfall, he added. These rains are typical of the season and not out of the ordinary so far, he said.
In Chennai, Nungambakkam weather station recorded 8.5 mm of rainfall, and Meenambakkam 17 mm of rain. The maximum recorded temperature was 31 and 30.1 respectively
