US scientists re-emphasize on using face masks as COVID-19 cases surge
- Amid the continuous surge in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths globally, the scientists have time and again reiterated the necessity of wearing a mask.
- Wearing a mask is "one of the most urgent things we can do to get our country [US] under control," Melanie Ott, director of the Gladstone Institute of Virology, was quoted as saying by The Wall Street Journal. "We're all waiting for the vaccine, we're waiting for therapeutics, and we're not there."

China blasts dam to release floodwaters as death toll rises
- The dam on the Chuhe River in Anhui province was destroyed with explosives early Sunday morning, after which the water level was expected to drop by 70 cms.
- Blasting dams and embankments to discharge water was an extreme response employed during China's worst floods in recent years in 1998.
- More than 2,000 people died and almost 3 million homes were destroyed back then.

UAE launches first 'Hope' mission to Mars from Japan
- The United Arab Emirates launched its first-ever interplanetary Hope Probe mission to Mars from Japan's Tanegashima Space Centre at 01:58 a.m. (local time) on Monday.
